0 Molecular Gas and Star Formation in the Host Galaxy of I Zw 1

A recent analysis of high angular resolution NIR imaging and spectroscopic data in conjunction with Plateau de Bure interferometric mm-line observations indicate the presence of a circum-nuclear starburst ring of ∼1.5” (1.5 kpc) diameter in I Zw 1. High angular resolution NIR imaging, using the MPE SHARP camera at the ESO NTT, HST V-band images, as well as NIR spectroscopy with MPE 3D provide a...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We have investigated the ISM of the I Zw 1 QSO host galaxy with Plateau de Bure mm-interferometry and high angular resolution near-infrared imaging spectroscopy. We have detected a circumnuclear gas ring of diameter ∼ 1.5 " (1.8 kpc) in its millimetric CO line emission and have mapped the disk and the spiral arms of the host galaxy in the 12 CO(1-0) line at 11...

The Luminosity Function of QSO Host Galaxies

We present some results from our HST imaging study of 71 QSO host galaxies. The objects are selected to have z ≤ 0.46 and total absolute magnitude MV ≤ −23. The aim of this initial study is to investigate the composition of the sample with respect to host morphology and radio loudness, as well as derive the QSO host galaxy luminosity function. We have analyzed 49 objects with WFPC2 images using...

Star-forming QSO host galaxies

Context. The recent finding of substantial masses of cold molecular gas as well as young stellar populations in the host galaxies of intermediate luminosity quasars is at odds with results of Hubble Space Telescope imaging studies since the latter appear to yield mature, quiescent early

XMM - Newton VIEW OF THE PROTOTYPE NARROW - LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXY I ZW 1

We present results based on an XMM-Newton observation of the prototype narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy I Zw 1 performed in June 2002. The 0.6−12 keV spectrum is well described by a steep power-law (Γ ∼ 2.3) and a weak soft blackbody component (kT ∼ 200 eV) below 2 keV. The soft X-ray excess emission is featureless and contributes only ∼ 10% to the total X-ray emission in the 0.6− 2 keV band. There...
